If you’ve got an eye for fashion and a talent for really, really tiny stitching, you too could be a star on Mattel’s new reality TV offering, Barbie Fashion Battle.
Mattel has announced it is partnering with Mission Control Media to develop Barbie Fashion Battle, a design-focused reality competition series that tasks aspiring designers with creating miniature high-fashion collections for Barbie. The project is part of a much wider initiative by Mattel, which has focused heavily over the past two years on developing TV series and films that depict Barbie and other traditional toy and game brands. There are currently more than two dozen projects in development Mattel Television, including three that involve the Barbie brand.
In the show, Barbie Fashion Battle‘s 12 adult contestants will be divided into two teams, each of them headed by a celebrity fashion icon, who will compete for a cash prize and an opportunity to design a line of Barbie doll fashions for the Mattel Creations e-commerce and content platform.
Mattel Television executive producer Adam Bonnett will be leading the creative team behind the new series, with Dwight Smith and Michael Agbabian acting as the executive producers for Mission Control Media, the production company behind reality TV shows like Face Off and Hollywood Game Night.
This is the fourth major project announced for Barbie over the past year. Mattel previously announced two new TV specials inspired by the toy brand, those being Barbie & Chelsea: The Lost Birthday and an as yet unnamed musical that will launch globally later this year. As theaters begin reopening post-pandemic, Mattel has also signed on A-lister Margot Robbie to star in a Barbie movie being jointly produced by Mattel and Warner Bros.
