The anime streamer Crunchyroll has completed a strategic acquisition of Right Stuf, considered the largest retailer of anime products in North America.
The Sony-owned streaming service announced on Aug. 4 that it had purchased Right Stuf, just ahead of the company’s annual Crunchyroll Expo event. Pricing and other terms were not disclosed publicly.
The Right Stuf acquisition bolsters Crunchyroll’s already successful e-commerce business, and widens its selection of goods in the categories of both anime and manga.
Right Stuf told its customers on its blog that the retail operation at RightStufAnime.com, will not change in any noticeable way, and the company will not just be carrying Crunchyroll products.
The one major change is that Right Stuf will immediately cease selling adult, 18+ content that it has branded as erotica. Otherwise, the company says Right Stuf will operate almost exactly as it has done in the past. No branding changes are being made, and for the time being, the two companies will operate separately.
