The theatrical release Godzilla vs. Kong has noisily stomped past $390 million in revenue at the global box office on its way to becoming the top grossing Hollywood movie of the pandemic, and not surprisingly, licensing deals have been quick to follow.
The clash of titans showed quickly surpassed the $365 million earned last fall by fellow Warner Bros.’ release Tenet, and remains the box office leader domestically globally this week. GvK clocked $7.7 million in box office receipts over the weekend, and took in another $12.2 million in overseas markets. That raised the film’s revenue to date to $80.5 million domestically and $390.2 million globally.
As a result, the Toho Company’s Godzilla brand has seen a massive boost as COVID weary consumers look for distracting fare in their entertainment choices. Among the deals announced this week are three new mobile games based on the scaly, oversized iguana, the most recent being Godzilla Battle Line.
Subsidiary TOHO Games, the game label of Toho Co., Ltd., has now released a visual and the latest promo video for its upcoming mobile game Godzilla Battle Line ahead of its global debut in May. The announcement follows the release of key art and promo video for Godzilla Destruction earlier this week, one of three Godzilla Games for mobile worldwide that are being released year, the first of which, Run Godzilla, is already available on mobile worldwide.
In “Godzilla Battle Line,” all the legendary monsters and weapons from the Godzilla series are ready for an epic fight. Players can build their own team of the strongest monsters and compete in exciting 3-minute battles against players from all over the world in real time.
The game’s key visual features some of the most beloved monsters featured over the course of the Godzilla series’ more than 65-year history, including Godzilla himself, King Ghidorah, Biollante, Rodan, Mechagodzilla, and Mothra.
Alongside this visual, a promo video featuring the latest gameplay footage has been released showing unique elements found in the game.
And it’s not just fun and games for the busy creatures of the Godzilla/Kong monster-verse.
Clothing company Uniqlo has launched a new collection to tie in with the movie Godzilla vs. Kong, which includes poster art from past movies.
The new range—which includes six adult designs and three designs for children—features special designs created using retro poster art, in addition to designs inspired by the new film to commemorate its release.
In addition, the retailer has also teamed with Warner Bros. to give fans the chance to win one of three special prize bundles. Movie merchandise on offer includes four of the Uniqlo graphics tees, plus an embroidered hat, wristband/headband, bobbleheads of Godzilla and Kong, a light-up water bottle and a logo projection keychain.
