Sarah Weisinger, a veteran at The House of Mouse, has taken on a new role as Senior VP and Group Publisher of Disney Publishing Worldwide.
Weisinger has been with Disney since 2000, and most recently worked as the Senior VP of Operations in the Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing Division. In this new role Weisinger will report to Stephanie Young, the president of Consumer Products, Games, and Publishing.
It’s a big role for Weisinger, as Disney Publishing produces a wide range of products, such as books, comics, magazine, and digital stories. Some are produced by Disney, while others are produced by Disney’s many global licensing partners. DPW also works with many top-selling authors, such as Rick Riordan, the New York Times number one selling author who penned the Percy Jackson series that was later turned into Disney films.
DPW has been going through some major changes, as well. Last year Disney sold more than a thousand titles to the Hachette Book Group, saying the company wants to focus more on books that best leverage Disney’s multimedia platforms.
Weisinger says her own focus will be on adapting content from Disney’s various content creation divisions, essentially extending out the stories from books and comics to film, television, games and digital media. As part of the larger Disney empire, DPW works with existing brands like Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, Hulu and 20th Century Studios, to name just a few.
In a recent interview with Publisher’s World Weisinger explained, “As consumer behaviors continue to shift online and our world becomes ever connected, we need to deliver characters and stories where and how the consumer wants them, in the formats they crave.”
