Character Licensing: Hot Wheels Develops High End R/C Version Of New Batmobile

October 19, 2021

The world is getting a new Batman, so why not a new Batmobile? And in this case, you won’t have to be a secretive billionaire playboy to afford it. Mattel’s Hot Wheels division has pulled out all the stops in developing a remote control version of the new Batmobile from the Matt Reeves film The Batman.

Retailing for $500, this miniature version of the new Batmobile is so realistic it has Robert Pattinson’s Batman handling the wheel, and even changing gears as he drives.

The 1/10 scale R/C model stands 5.3-inches tall, and measures 19.5-inches long. It takes three hours to charge and can run for up to 25 minutes at speeds as high as 15 miles per hour which at scale equates to a top speed for the full-size Batmobile of 150 mph.

Like the movie, this version of the Batmobile isn’t slick and shiny, but rather tough and gritty looking, like a car that regularly does battle with Gotham’s underworld villains. The car comes complete with battle damage and dirt on this car, but it also has all of the gadgets you’d expect.

LED lights and water vapor create the illusion of a rocket booster on the new Hot Wheels R/C Batmobile.

The RC car is a rear-wheel drive vehicle with a working suspension and at the rear of the car LED lights and water vapor create the illusion the car has a working rocket booster. The care is controlled using a pistol-grip + wheel style controller for precise driving.

As the film explores the first year of Batman’s presence in Gotham, the car is more basic than the outlandish ‘Tumbler’ style machine from the Dark Knight series, and is based on a heavily tricked out muscle car. It’s also designed to be a display model, and comes with its own automotive lift doubling as a display.

The pre-sale for this R/C model car starts at noon Eastern on Oct. 20 exclusively at Mattel Creations. While you don’t have to be a billionaire to afford one, it does come with a hefty price tag of $500.
