Character Licensing: Wonder Woman’s 80th Anniversary Inspires New Licensed Activations

October 22, 2021

Actor Gal Gadot and her hit character Wonder Woman are inspiring a wide range of new licensed collections, with three appearing over the past week alone.

It’s all part of a massive, global campaign to commemorate Wonder Woman’s first appearance as a character, which occurred during the Second World War.

In honor of the superhero’s 80th anniversary, Gadot herself just dropped a DC-approved line of apparel and accessories, including T-shirts and hoodies.

“Join me in celebrating 80 years of Wonder Woman!” Gadot said on her Instagram account. “I’m super excited to announce the launch of my exclusive Wonder Woman Collection. I feel this line really captures the magic and strength of Diana and I hope you enjoy wearing it as much as I did creating it.”

Actor Gal Gadot unveiled some of her new Wonder Woman collection on her Instagram feed this week.

To celebrate Wonder Woman’s first appearance in All-Star Comics in 1941, the Gadot teamed up with the clothing brand Represent, DC Comics and Warner Brothers to create a limited-edition line that embodies “strength, truth, courage and compassion.” The collection includes the ‘Fight Like A Girl’ T-shirt (pictured above), the Saving the Day hoodie, and a new Wonder Woman themed hat.

Pressing the add to cart button isn’t the only way to celebrate Diana’s big day. You can also watch the warrior be inducted into the Comic-Con Character Hall of Fame on Youtube. The superhero, who was officially recognized on Thursday, Oct. 21, is the 3rd inductee, joined only by Batman and PAC-MAN.

“Wonder Woman is one of the most enduring feminist icons in fiction, who has paved the way for countless others that have followed in her Amazonian footsteps,” the Comic-Con Museum said in a statement.

For those needing something a bit more formal, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Indian fashion designer Nivedita Saboo announced this month a new collection inspired by Wonder Woman. In celebration of Wonder Woman’s 80th anniversary, Nivedita launched her range on October 15 at the St Regis, Mumbai, as a part of The Bombay Times Fashion Week.

Models hit the catwalk in Wonder Woman-inspired fashion in Mumbai, on Oct. 15.

India’s rising acting star Meezaan Jafri was among those walking the catwalk in fashions the designer says is designed to inspire young Indians and convey the ethos of both Nivedita and Wonder Woman herself.

“This collaboration with Warner Bros. to design their prêt and couture collections truly resonates with my signature style,” said Saboo. “The custom created digital prints, sharp seams, precision cuts and intricate techniques of detailing infuse the qualities and ethos of Wonder Woman in the womenswear and menswear ensembles. This couture collection is specially created to celebrate our Indian culture, weddings and festivals.

“Wonder Woman as a superhero is very close to my heart since she resonates with me, my team of wonder women and all the lives that we touch every single day while we create new products and collections,” Saboo added. “I am looking forward to launching this collection in India.”

The collection will be available at her luxury stores in Pune and Mumbai and on her online store at www.NiveditaSaboo.com

Finally, in a completely different tribute to the Amazonian warrior, Six Flags Magic Mountain, in partnership with Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment and DC, has unveiled plans to add a new roller coaster, Wonder Woman Flight of Courage, to its lineup of adrenalin pumping rides.

An artist’s digital rendition shows the upcoming Wonder Woman-inspired ride Flight of Courage at Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park.

Flight of Courage will be the 20th roller coaster in the theme park, setting a world record, and will also be the world’s tallest and longest single-rail roller coaster. Riders will speed through more than 3,300 feet of track, rising 13 stories and roaring down steep slopes and around tight turns at speeds up to 58 mph.

The ride will be part of a newly themed area of the park based on the DC Universe, which will include attractions such as Batman: The Ride.

The Flight of Courage plays heavily on the Wonder Woman legacy, including a themed entrance and queue inspired by the Amazonian island of Themyscira. The ride will have four trains of 12 passengers each sitting one rider per row along the monorail track, which includes a 131-foot ascent and a zero gravity roll.
