Chordal Launches InstantClear to Streamline Music Licensing

March 7, 2025

TLL Staff

The music rights tech company Chordal has introduced InstantClear, a pre-cleared music licensing system designed to simplify and scale the commercial music industry’s licensing process.

The system, which utilizes patent-pending technology, aims to provide a more efficient solution for securing legal, financial, and creative rights to fractionally owned songs.

“With InstantClear, we’re giving rights holders more control while unlocking new opportunities for music licensing at scale,” said Grayson Sanders, CEO of Chordal. “For years, we’ve been building the infrastructure for a more efficient, transparent licensing process, and over the past two years, we’ve seen firsthand how much demand there is for a better solution. This next step ensures that both the music industry and content creators have a smarter, faster way to connect—without the friction that has traditionally slowed down licensing.”

Instant Clear doesn’t just simplify the art of the licensing deal; it also makes it easier to find the right music for a particular campaign or program.

Sanders says InstantClear is built to address long-standing challenges in the music licensing industry by offering a pre-cleared catalog of music that can be licensed instantly.

Traditionally, licensing commercially released music has been a complex and time-consuming process, often requiring multiple stakeholders to negotiate terms and approve usage. InstantClear changes this by allowing co-rights holders to pre-approve their individual shares for specific buyers or use cases, significantly reducing last-minute negotiations.

Some of the more interesting features we saw in InstantClear include an automated legal module that customizes agreements in real-time. It ensures that all necessary stakeholders approve licenses before songs are made available for purchase. As well, the system streamlines payments, consolidating multiple transactions into a single automated process. Unlike some other licensing models we’ve seen, InstantClear does not require rights holders to pre-assign algorithmic pricing to their songs, which Chordal says offers more flexibility in licensing deals.

Chordal says it spent six years developing its rights management platform, with the past two years focused on serving clients across the music industry. With hundreds of rights holders already using its technology, the launch of InstantClear represents an expansion of Chordal’s mission to make commercial music licensing more efficient and accessible for labels, publishers, and estates.

The launch of InstantClear comes at a time when the digital content market, valued at $187.5 billion, continues to grow. By eliminating negotiation delays and reducing legal bottlenecks, InstantClear aims to benefit music supervisors, filmmakers, advertisers, game developers, and digital creators who require a seamless, one-stop licensing solution for commercially released music.
