Fashion Licensing: Tommy Bahama Going to the Dogs in K9 Licensing Deal

August 15, 2022

The chilled out, island lifestyle brand Tommy Bahama has partnered with K9Wear on an innovative collection of premium pet harnesses and apparel.

K9Wear says its created the first interchangeable apparel harnesses for dogs that offer quality, comfort, and Tommy Bahamas’ signature style.

“We’re thrilled to be working with a brand as iconic as Tommy Bahama,” says James Straggas, CEO and Co‐Founder of K9Wear. “Our shared values of style, quality, and comfort make this a perfect match and we’re looking forwardto seeing some happy dogs.”

If you’ve got a dog that likes to chill out with the family at the beach, check out the new K9 harnesses, now paired with fashions based on the island lifestyle brand Tommy Bahamas.

K9Wear produces their own line of pet apparel, but also collaborates with fashion lifestyle brands on custom collections.

The Tommy Bahama x K9Wear collection will launch in November for Holiday2022, at tommybahama.com,  as well as at select department and specialty retailers nationwide.

“We are so pleased to partner with K9Wear on this innovative collection of pet apparel and accessories,” said Chrisann Furciato, SVP of Licensing at Tommy Bahama. “This is a growing billion‐dollar market and one that is important to our guests.

“We wanted to partner with a company that would provide quality and innovation that is reminiscent of our brand,” Furciato added. “The extension of Tommy Bahama to include our pets affords our guest’s entire family to enjoy the island life.”

K9Wear was launched with the goal of bringing dogs and their owners closer together through fashion. Founder James Straggas was frustrated when he tried dozens of options to dress his Boston Terrier, who struggled with the cold Boston winters. The idea occurred to him that while he thought some of the outfits looked good, his dog was not comfortable and sometimes even in pain.

K9Wear solved this problem using its patented hybrid harness to give dogs complete freedom of movement.

The harness uses military grade mesh for breathability, adjustable metal buckles, and fits dogs from 3 ‐ 150lbs. Dog parents can add on K9Wear outfits of their choosing on top of the harness. “The dog will not know they are wearing clothes and there is no more struggle to dress your dog before taking them out,” says Andy Carter, a licensed AKC judge and K9Wear’s COO.

Tommy Bahama x K9Wear will allow pet owners to bring the island lifestyle to man’s best friend in comfortable, highquality and matching outfits, the partners say.

Launching for the holiday season in 2022 is the signature Tommy Bahama Aruba Zip Neck pullover in a soft, colorful knit. Also, just in time for the holidays, the collection will offer pajamas in the same festive prints asTommy Bahama’s family PJ’s for men, women and kids.

Each dog outfit will be come with the K9Wear patented harness that the outfit attaches to. The value of the harness is $55 but will come free as a gift with the first Tommy Bahama x K9Wear purchase. Additional styles will be added to the collection. Retail prices will range from $99 to $129.
