Who’s News: Former Head of MGM Consumer Products Launches Licensing Consultancy

April 29, 2024

By Gary Symons

TLL Editor in Chief

There’s a new player in the brand and licensing game, headed by Robert Marick, former head of MGM Consumer Products.

Marick has announced the formation of M²G, aka Marick Management Group, which will “focus on delivering outside-the-box product expansion strategies for global brands looking to scale their IP in unique and creative ways.”

Marick will lead a team at M²G that specializes in infusing product innovation and creativity their work with clients. The company will provide strategy and business planning, brand management, entertainment licensing, marketing and sales, and product category development.

“I’ve had the opportunity throughout my career, to work with a number of global companies, across multiple lines of business, on evolving their portfolio of IP in ways that connected with the cultural zeitgeist, and introduced iconic properties to new generations of consumers,” Marick says. “I’m looking forward to utilizing my experience in this new endeavor to help brands create imaginative and successful product strategies that will enable them to achieve their goals.”

The veteran licensing executive is extremely well known in the industry, particularly through his work leading MGM Consumer Products, and he has also worked with a number of Fortune 500 companies, including Discovery, Disney, Fox Entertainment, and Mattel. Over the years Marick has acquired deep expertise in functions key to the licensing industry, including brand management, product development, marketing, sales, creative, finance, and business development. Marick also has a great deal of experience working in different regions around the world, having worked on projects in territories including Asia, LATAM, Europe, and the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) in the Middle East.

I personally always made a point of touching base with Marick at Licensing Expo, partly to find out what MGM CP was up to, but also to get a bit of an education about entertainment and character licensing. Some of the changes we made at TLL over the past few years came from Marick’s free advice.

Marick says his new company M²G will be offering a comprehensive suite of services, such as brand building and support of business expansion across multiple lines of business, including consumer products, interactive games, licensing media and advertising, and location-based entertainment. “The company will tailor their services to the needs of each client and focus on their specific goals for scaling their brands,” he adds.

For those interested in learning more about the new consultancy, Marick will be available at the Licensing Expo in Las Vegas from May 21 to May 23.
