ZAG Appoints Nelvana to Represent Miraculous and Ghostforce in Canada

September 25, 2023

By Allison Watkinson
TLL Reporter
Nelvana has been appointed as the exclusive Canadian licensing and merchandising agent for the ZAG HEROEZ brands Miraculous and Ghostforce.
“Nelvana’s expertise across the Canadian market is unparalleled, and we are confident they are the best partners for us to expand the Miraculous brand across the region by securing new partners and expanding placement at retail,” said ZAG VP, Angela Cortez. “We’re also looking forward to them introducing Ghostforce to potential partners in Canada – there is great enthusiasm for the brand in Latin America where we will be launching our first products in time for Halloween, which include a toy line from our strategic partner Novabrink.”
A subsidiary of Corus Entertainment, Nelvana is a global children’s entertainment company that focuses on producing and distributing animated content and providing licensing and merchandising services for its partner brands.
Under the new agreement, Nelvana will be responsible for expanding the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir and Ghostforce brands across Canada.
ZAG currently has over 60 established licensing agreements in the region for the Miraculous brand with companies such as Playmates Toys, Bentex, Bioworld, Isaac Morris, Jay Franco, and Zak Designs.
Nelvana intends to secure new licensing partners for the Miraculous brand, in addition to working with existing licensees for all merchandise, promotions, and retail development across the country.
Nelvana also plans to introduce potential licensing partners to ZAG’s supernatural adventure series, Ghostforce.
The partnership with Nelvana kicked off with an exclusive Miraculous x Toys’R’Us promotion on Sept. 23, 2023.
As ZAG’s official Miraculous Day retailer in Canada, Toys’R’Us hosted Miraculous-themed activities at 10 of its retail stores across the country.
The Miraculous activities included craft stations, makeup artistry, activity sheets, collectible sticker giveaways, toy demos, and photo opportunities with Miraculous Ladybug. The first 20 fans to attend each event in a Miraculous costume received a special themed prize.
ZAG’s Miraculous broadcasting partners Tele-Quebec, Family Channel and Disney also celebrated Miraculous Day in Canada with digital campaigns.
“ZAG’s Miraculous has become an international sensation with fans all over the world and Canada is no exception, with multiple miraculous growth opportunities for the franchise,” said Nelvana director, Carly Slack. “We’re immensely proud to be launching our partnership with ZAG with an exciting Miraculous Day retail experience for fans exclusively at Toys’R’Us Canada stores, and look forward to catapulting the brand to new heights with even more partnerships here in Canada.”
Miraculous products that are currently available for purchase at Toys’R’Us Canada locations are the Miraculous Magic Heroez collection from Playmates Toys and the Miraculous Chibi Mini Playsets from TCG Toys.
Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is a 3D-CGI-animated action-comedy series that was created by ZAG and co-produced with Method Animation’s Mediawan Kids & Family division.
The Miraculous series is currently available in Canada on Disney+, Tele-Quebec, Family Channel, and Netflix.
