Something to Tweet About: Campaign celebrates 80 Years of Tweety

March 11, 2022

Long before Tweets, there was Tweety.

WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences is launching a global 80th anniversary celebration for the licensed character brand Tweety.

The 80 Years of Tweety campaign will kick off in Austin at SXSW 2022 on March 11. Tweety debuted in the award-winning 1942 short, A Tale of Two Kitties. Tweety’s popularity grew and the little bird soon became one of the most well-known Looney Tunes characters. The character has starred in numerous films, including the Oscar-winning film, Birds Anonymous in 1957.

“For eighty years, Tweety has marched to the beat of his own drum, inherently representing what it means to be unapologetically yourself,” said Pam Lifford, President of WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences. “His endearing personality has made him a pop culture favorite and he’s known for making appearances in the most unexpected ways. As a key member of the Looney Tunes franchise, we definitely wanted to celebrate Tweety’s 80th in a big way and are excited for the year-long celebration ahead. Keep your eyes out for him to pop up anywhere, from fashion to collectibles and more.”

One of the more than 30 murals featuring Tweety being painted in cities around the world.

The anniversary celebration will bring a slate of new licensed Tweety content across the categories of features, products, experiences and more.

The new content will be released throughout the year from well-known companies such as HBOMax and WarnerMedia Kids & Family. New themed experiences and collections from Warner Bros. Consumer Products will also be released.

WMGBE has commissioned a group of artists to design 80 original murals inspired by Tweety’s history. To complete the murals, WMGBE worked with 16 different artists, each with a unique style and interpretation of the iconic character.

The artists have been selected through the lens of diversity across different countries, artistic mediums, ethnicities, genders, and sexualities. Tweety’s signature yellow color is a prominent aspect of the designs.

Free for all to enjoy, the murals will appear in the United States, France, Germany, Spain, Mexico, United Arab Emirates and more. In the United States, Tweety murals will pop up in more than 30 cities.

Available exclusively on WBCP’s Looney Tunes Shop is the all-new Tweety’s 80th Mural Collection. The collection is set to feature selected mural designs on licensed merchandise and apparel.

Loungefly has also joined the celebration with two Tweety-inspired products including the Tweety 80th Anniversary Plush Backpack and the Tweety and Sylvester 80th Anniversary Zip Around Wallet.

Ugly Duckling Beauty and Warner Bros. Consumer Products’ newest collaboration for the event is a limited-edition, box collection of 3D magnetic eyelashes featuring Tweety. The curated collection features four statement style lashes named Tweety Pie, Tweety Bird,” Looney Luxury Lashes  and  I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat!

Presented in Tweety-themed keepsake packaging, the collection continues Ugly Duckling Beauty’s tradition of high-quality, hand-crafted, seven-magnet eyelashes.

The Tweety character continues to star in the Looney Tunes Cartoons animated series from Warner Bros. The series is currently streaming on HBO Max. New episodes will debut from the Max Original series throughout the year.

In addition, Tweety will star alongside other Looney Tunes characters in Bugs Bunny Builders, which is a new preschool animated series coming to Cartoonito on HBO Max and Cartoon Network.

The anniversary celebration will culminate on Tweety’s birthday on Nov. 21, 2022.
