TED Talks Licensing With Beanstalk As New Agency

May 6, 2024

Beanstalk to Extend the World-Renowned TED Brands into New Licensed Products and Services

By Gary Symons

TLL Editor in Chief

The world-renowned TED Conferences has just appointed Beanstalk as it’s exclusive global licensing agency.

TED Conferences is a non-profit organization, best known for the TED Talks that explore new concepts in the areas of technology, entertainment and design.

The organization says it has appointed Beanstalk to extend its brand platforms into new product categories and services, that leverage TED’s unique content and support its mission to spread ideas, foster community and create impact.

Beanstalk is one of the world’s top licensing agencies by revenues, and offers a wide range of services, including brand representation, digital media representation, manufacturer representation, cultural intelligence, creative services, legal and financial services, and royalty auditing. While the company is headquartered in New York, it has established a global presence with offices in London, Miami, Cincinnati, Mexico City and Sao Paulo, and affiliates throughout the world.

TED, which stands for technology, entertainment and design, is a non-profit that believes powerful ideas, powerfully presented, move us: to feel something, to think differently, to take action. Through live events, free original content, and business solutions, TED strives to discover and spread ideas that spark conversation, deepen understanding, and drive meaningful change.

In addition to the TED brand, Beanstalk will also develop licensing opportunities for TED-Ed, TED’s      education initiative which aims to spark and celebrate the ideas and knowledge-sharing of teachers and students around the world, and TEDx, the grassroots initiative that brings the spirit of TED to local communities around the globe.

Allison Ames, President and CEO of Beanstalk, says her team is keen to work with TED due to its unique ability to create change through “the power of ideas.”

“We are honored to partner with TED, an organization that embodies the power of ideas to inspire, educate, and provoke meaningful conversations,” Ames said. “The original foundation that TED was built on, technology, entertainment and design, collectively shape our world today. This presents wonderful and ingenious opportunities to amplify TED’s impact and bring its transformative ideas to even wider audiences through ground-breaking partnerships, products, and services.”

Beanstalk’s task will be to extend TED and its associated brands through strategic partnerships that reinforce the brands’ positioning as a platform for the pursuit of knowledge across a variety of categories, including toys, physical games and puzzles, consumer electronics, publishing, travel tours, camps and other services, as well as e-commerce and direct-to-consumer activations.

Alan Seiffert, TED’s Head of Global Business Development, notes that these are all areas in which Beanstalk has a huge well of expertise and knowledge

Inside Beanstalk: The Pioneer in Corporate Brand Licensing

“Bringing new ideas and innovations to a global audience is at the core of TED’s mission,” Seiffert said. “We are excited to work with Beanstalk to bring the vision of TED to life in new, authentic ways. With Beanstalk’s expertise, insights, and sophisticated approach to engaging consumers, they are a superb partner for TED to expand into licensed products and services.”

TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged. The concept caught fire, and today TED organizers conferences and events that span the globe.

In addition to the TED Talks curated from its annual conferences and published on TED.com, the organization produces original podcasts, short video series, animated educational lessons (TED-Ed) and TV programs that are translated into more than 100 languages and distributed via partnerships around the world.

As well, thousands of independently run TEDx events bring people together every year to share ideas and bridge divides in communities on every continent.

TED is also heavily involved in projects to improve life around the world, and to support democracy.

Through the Audacious Project, TED has helped catalyze more than $3 billion in funding for projects “that seek to make the world more beautiful, sustainable and just.”

In 2020, TED launched Countdown, an initiative to accelerate solutions to the climate crisis and mobilize a movement for a net-zero future, and in 2023 TED launched TED Democracy to spark a new kind of conversation focused on realistic pathways towards a more vibrant and equitable future.
