Crazy Deuce Studios and King Features have launched Total Chaos on Kickstarter, marking the debut of the first officially licensed Flash Gordon collectible card game.
The two-player strategy game brings together retro science fiction themes and crossover gameplay, positioning itself at the intersection of trading cards, pop culture, and brand licensing. The first set immerses players in the Flash Gordon universe, featuring classic characters such as Flash Gordon himself, arch enemy Ming the Merciless, Dale Arden, and Prince Vultan.
The collectible card set has been reimagined with new artwork and high-end card designs.
“This is a love letter to fans of retro sci-fi, card games, and pop culture,” said William Danz, creator and founder of Crazy Deuce Studios. “Not only is it the first officially licensed collectible card game for Flash Gordon, it’s the start of something much bigger. We’re building a crossover universe where multiple IPs collide, letting fans create battles they’ve only dreamed about.”
Brand licensing Meets Tabletop Gaming
The project highlights a broader licensing push for Flash Gordon, one of the most influential science-fiction properties of the past century.
King Features, a unit of Hearst and owner of the franchise, has recently expanded Flash Gordon across multiple platforms.
The comic strip was relaunched in 2023 and is now syndicated in 200 outlets worldwide. Mad Cave Studios was tapped as the master publishing partner, with more than 30 new titles released to date, including The Girl from Infinity, the first female-led Flash Gordon story, authored by Marguerite Bennett.
By entering the collectible card game space, King Features is tapping into a growing sector of fan-driven licensed products, adding another channel for the 90-year-old property to connect with new generations of audiences.
The studio says Total Chaos is designed as a fast-paced, customizable game, with faction-based strategies and high replay value. Categories include bosses, characters, weapons, armor, locations and effects, while factions range from heroes and villains to antiheroes and nightmare forces.
Booster boxes will contain 24 packs of 10 cards each, with chase cards, alternate foils and debut exclusives driving collectability.
The Kickstarter campaign offers booster boxes starting at $140, with stretch goals that include exclusive cards not available through retail. Funding will support production, team expansion and future licensed sets beyond Flash Gordon.
The Long and Influential Legacy of Flash Gordon
Created by Alex Raymond in 1934, Flash Gordon helped define the space opera genre and inspired generations of storytellers, including George Lucas when he was developing Star Wars.
The character has appeared in serials, radio programs, comic books, novels and animated adaptations, remaining a fixture in popular culture for nearly a century.
Crowdsourcing Authenticity: Octane5 Says Future of Brand Protection Lies with Consumers
For Crazy Deuce Studios, founded by Danz, the game represents both a tribute to classic science fiction and a platform for future collaborations. With additional IP partnerships in development, Total Chaos is envisioned as an expanding multiverse where multiple licensed properties can share the same stage.
King Features continues to broaden its licensing portfolio across categories, with Flash Gordon positioned as a flagship brand alongside icons such as Popeye, The Phantom, Blondie and Beetle Bailey.
The Total Chaos Kickstarter campaign is now live, with retail distribution expected to follow for both the Flash Gordon set and future crossover expansions.
