TV Series Licensing: Novel Entertainment Signs Horrid Deal With P2 Games

January 20, 2022

By Allison Watkinson

TLL Reporter

Novel Entertainment has partnered with P2 Games to develop and launch a new racing game for its Horrid Henry brand.

‘Horrid Henry’s Krazy Karts’ will initially be available exclusively from the Nintendo eShop on Nintendo Switch from Jan. 21. The game is designed to appeal to children ages 6+ and families.

Based on Novel Entertainment’s television series Horrid Henry, the all-new game will give players the chance to race as main characters from the hit show.

It will feature single and multiplayer modes, as well as offering both a Tournament and Race Mode option. During the races, players control their racing karts to swoop over jumps and dodge obstacles such as slime and goo.

The game features 40 levels set across four themed locations: Gross World, Ashton Town, Ashton Primary and the Park. The game has a level design editor, giving players the chance to create and share their own challenges. Fans are also able to customise their kart in the Wacky Workshop for extra advantage.

“There continues to be a high expectation from Horrid Henry’s extensive international fan base for engaging ways to experience the brand across a multitude of formats and platforms,” said Lucinda Whiteley, Co-Founder and Creative Director at Novel Entertainment. “As such, it’s fantastic to once again team up with P2 Games and bring fans a new action-packed racing game, which incorporates all the Horrid Henry elements they know and love.

“As one of the first character and entertainment brands to be brought to life for both kids and family audiences on Nintendo Switch™, we’re confident ‘Horrid Henry’s Krazy Karts’ is going to be a huge hit with gamers of all ages and keep them entertained for a long time to come.”

Founded in 2001, Novel Entertainment specializes in the creation and development of children’s character brands across a wide array of media. Novel has produced more than 850 programmes for television and radio. Their expertise extends into brand licensing and merchandising, computer games, interactive online content, and more.

P2 Games is a leading UK-based publisher of apps and games playable on Apple, Android, Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony and PC devices. The company has game publishing rights for a number of licensed children’s properties.

The two companies have a history of creating Horrid Henry gaming properties. In 2015, they collaborated on Horrid Henry’s Big Box of Pranks, a popular children’s game for mobile devices.

“We’re absolutely delighted to be working with Novel Entertainment once again to introduce the hugely successful Horrid Henry brand to Nintendo Switch,” said Gerry Whiteside, Co-Director at P2. “This is the first game that P2, in collaboration with Mobile Pie, has developed for this device and we believe there’s a huge gap in the market for high quality kids gaming content.

“Producing a racing game centered around Horrid Henry and his friends has been so much fun and we’re really excited to offer fans across the globe the chance to play this action-packed family friendly game.”

Horrid Henry is CITV’s most popular show and has also become a highly rated series on NickToon and Nickelodeon UK. The series is broadcast in over 150 territories outside the UK.
