The series, slated for streaming broadcast on Disney+, is based on Jones’ 2016 memoir Lonely Boy, but Lydon says the book and the series paint him as the villain of the piece. Claiming the book depicts him in a “hostile and unflattering light,” Lydon says he will not approve licensing of the band’s music for Pistol, unless he is ordered to do so by a judge.
All parties agree the band had a notoriously fractious relationship, but the lawyer for Jones and Cook, Edmund Cullen, says the band had an agreement in 1998 that all licensing decisions would be resolved on a “majority rules basis”.
He also says bassist Glen Matlock and the estate of original bassist Sid Vicious had both approved the use of the songs for the series.
Directed by Danny Boyle and written by Frank Cottrell-Boyce, the six-part series will tell the wild story of Jones and his mates as the Sex Pistols crashed into the global music scene as one of the world’s most influential punk rock bands.
“Imagine breaking into the world of The Crown and Downton Abbey with your mates and screaming your songs and your fury at all they represent,” said Boyle, explaining his interest in the project. “It is the detonation point for British street culture where ordinary young people had the stage and vented their fury and their fashion, and everyone had to watch and listen, and everyone feared them or followed them.”
AC/DC Partner On Rockin’ Craft Beers
The legendary Australian rock band AC/DC have partnered with two California companies to launch a selection of craft beers.
The band says it has teamed up with KnuckleBonz, Inc. and Calicraft Brewing Co. for the new beers, which will be officially launched at a series of festivals and events in California this weekend.
“We are excited to announce this is the first in a series of AC/DC branded beers to be featured in this unique collaboration to bring quality beverages to the music superfan,” said a joint statement from KnuckleBonz and Calicraft.
The two AC/DC branded beers are AC/DC PWR UP Juicy IPA and AC/DC TNT Double IPA.
“We blend a mix of Australian Cascade, American Cascade and Simcoe to create a big, bold 8.2% Double IPA,” says a product description. “Flavors of fresh-cut grapefruit, sweet mango and fresh pine explode out of the glass. Inspired by the first international AC/DC album, AC/DC TNT Double IPA proves that classics never go out of style.”
