The Lego Group Debuts Fan-Inspired Set Based on the Jaws Movie

July 9, 2024

By TLL Staff
The Lego Group and UP&E has announced a Lego Ideas fan-inspired building set based on the 1975 blockbuster horror movie, Jaws.
Originally conceived by LEGO fan Johnny Campbell through the LEGO Ideas community platform, the  1497-piece Jaws x Lego set includes many licensed elements from the Jaws movie such as official characters, props, settings and more.
“JAWS is my favourite movie of all-time, so I really wanted to recreate it in LEGO bricks,” said Lego Ideas fan designer, Johnny Campbell. “LEGO building has always been a part of my life in some shape or form but in order to get all of the finer details, I actually freeze-framed JAWS as I watched it so that I could catch a glimpse of the finer details taking notes as I went along. It is just mind-blowing that my design is now an official LEGO set,” added Campbell. “I can’t wait to stand in a LEGO shop looking at the shelves and seeing a set that I have been involved with and watching someone buying it. It’s every LEGO fan’s dream!”
The licensed Jaws characters featured in the Lego set include police chief Martin Brody, marine biologist Matt Hooper and sailor Sam Quint.
The Jaws x Lego set also includes a detailed replica of the film’s Orca boat with a cabin, a removable roof, an adjustable boom and ship rigging.
In addition, the Lego Orca boat features a variety of accessories such as a revolver, a compass, a fishing rod, a harpoon, a spear, the yellow barrels that were pivotal to the movie’s plot and a printed tile that includes the iconic movie line, “You’re gonna need a bigger boat,” that can be attached as a set centerpiece.
Once assembled, the set can be displayed on a brick-built seawater base with the JAWS LEGO shark model attacking the Orca boat.
To celebrate the launch of the Jaws Lego set, the LEGO Group and UP&E (Universal Products & Experiences) collaborated on a licensed Lego brick-buster mini-film called Jaws…in a Jiffy.
The brick-buster mini-film features a recreation of many popular scenes from the 1975 Jaws movie told in only 90 seconds.
The licensed Jaws…in a Jiffy mini-film also includes a surprise ending reveal that features a mini-figure based on the Jaws film director, Steven Spielberg.
The Lego Jaws set is expected to officially release in August of 2024.
Universal Pictures 1975 Jaws blockbuster film centered on a town called Amity that was under attack by a massive and highly aggressive great white shark.
The town’s chief of police Martin Brody, a marine biologist named Matt Hooper and a sailor called Sam Quint have to work together to slay the man-eating sea creature.
The movie became a cult classic following its release due to its recognizable soundtrack and campy story-line.
Universal Products & Experiences (UP&E) is the dedicated licensing division of the NBCUniversal entertainment company.
The division specializes in securing global expansions and licensing collaborations for NBCUniversal’s IP portfolio.
This includes brands from Universal Pictures, Illumination, DreamWorks Animation and NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.
