In a partnership that’s as eerie as it is edible, Wendy’s has teamed up with Netflix’s Wednesday to launch the “Meal of Misfortune.”
The partners have created a limited-time combo crafted by none other than Wednesday Addams herself, available August 4 in the U.S. and August 11 in Canada, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Guam.
The darkly themed meal dares customers to embrace the bizarre, with “Rest in 10-Piece” Chicken Nuggets, “Cursed & Crispy” Fries, a small “Raven’s Blood” Frosty with a signature “Spoon of Gloom,” and two of four mystery “Dips of Dread.”
Served in custom packaging straight from Wednesday’s own macabre imagination, this is definitely not a happy meal.
Each order comes with a pair of the four Wednesday-inspired dipping sauces: You Can’t Hyde, This Will Sting, Grave Mistake, or Nowhere to Woe. Adding to the misery, customers won’t know what sauces they’re getting, because fate, not flavor preference, makes the rules.
“There’s nothing typical about this collaboration,” said Lindsay Radkoski, U.S. Chief Marketing Officer at The Wendy’s Company. “Wendy’s and Wednesday are both cultural icons known for challenging norms with wit and boldness. This meal is a match made in dark, dry-witted heaven.”
Wednesday Addams insisted the inspiration might have come from somewhere hotter and darker than heaven.
“Normally I’d be against this kind of capitalistic corporate synergy,” said Addams. “But when the fast-food-slinging, pigtailed provocateur said I could do whatever I wanted to her customers, I couldn’t resist.”
The promotion is scheduled to coincide with the Season 2 Part 1 premiere of Wednesday on Netflix, which drops on August 6.
The promotion also includes an interactive mobile game, Escape from Wednesday’s Woe, available exclusively in the U.S. Wendy’s app. The gravity-defying mini-game allows players to guide Wendy through a gauntlet of traps and treats, with a $10,000 grand prize up for grabs.
The “Meal of Misfortune” will be available for a limited time in Wendy’s restaurants and through the app. For fans of dark comedy, it may be the most delightfully dreadful meal of the summer.
