Cottage Door Press Expands Into Toy Market With Launch of Luna StoryTime Projector

June 24, 2025

Cottage Door Press, a children’s book publisher celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2025, has announced the launch of the Luna StoryTime Projector, a new 3-in-1 device designed to make storytime more immersive and screen-free.

This marks the company’s first official move into the toy category.

Luna combines a projector, audio and music player, and night light in one device. Aimed at children aged 3 to 7, the product is intended to encourage early literacy and imaginative play without requiring screens, Wi-Fi, or apps.

“To instill a lifelong love of reading, it’s important to meet kids where they’re at,” said Dick Maddrell, CEO and founder of Cottage Door Press. “Moving into the toy aisle with Luna is a natural next step for us as a company, deepening our connection with today’s families.”

Maddrell, who previously served as president of Publications International and played a role in the development of sound books, brings over three decades of experience in children’s publishing to this new venture.

Luna features narrated stories, sing-along songs, and animated projections on walls and ceilings. Each “Content Character”—small, themed cartridges — provides between 30 and 70 minutes of educational and entertainment content. At launch, Luna will offer more than a dozen characters, including well-known children’s brands such as Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, PAW Patrol, Sesame Street, Thomas & Friends, and John Deere Kids.

Melissa Tigges, VP of Strategic Initiatives at Cottage Door Press, emphasized the challenges modern parents face balancing screen time with educational content.

“Luna reimagines storytime as a joyful, screen-free experience—fostering meaningful family connection or empowering independent play, while giving parents a well-earned break,” she said.

The Luna StoryTime Projector includes three modes of use:

  • Story Projector: Projects motion-illustrated stories up to eight feet tall with accompanying audio narration.

  • Audio and Music Player: Plays songs and stories in audio-only mode.

  • Night Light: Features multicolor lighting and lullabies with an auto shut-off.

The Luna Starter Set retails for $69.99 and includes the projector, an Owl Content Character with five stories and five songs, a stand, and a USB-C cable. Additional characters are sold separately at $17.99 each. Bundled starter sets with bonus content will also be available.

The Luna collection is currently available through LunaStoryTime.com and is expected to launch on Amazon in July. Additional retail distribution is planned for Barnes & Noble, Kohl’s, Target.com, and Walmart.com later this fall.

Cottage Door Press, founded in 2014, has sold tens of millions of books in over 30 languages. With a catalog of more than 800 titles, the company is best known for its interactive board books such as the Peek-a-Flap series and titles like Babies Love Colors and 365 Bedtime Stories and Rhymes. The publisher has also reached wide audiences through partnerships including the McDonald’s Happy Meal Readers program.
