Film Licensing: Sony Unveils Massive Slate of Licensing Collaborations For Ghostbusters Afterlife

November 10, 2021

Covering All Licensing Categories, the Global Ghostbusters Lineup is the Brand’s Biggest CP Program of All-Time

Sony Pictures Consumer Products has revealed the largest slate of licensing deals in the history of its Ghostbusters franchise, as the latest film prepares for theatrical release on Nov. 19.

The wide range of merchandise and interactive experiences covers pretty much all licensing categories, including apparel, publishing, toys and collectibles, home goods, seasonal, gaming, interactive games and many more.

“The current Ghostbusters licensing lineup is the brand’s biggest CP program of all time,” said Sony in a release. “In addition to the U.S., the brand can be found in hundreds of exciting formats around the world, including key markets, the UK, Germany, Mexico, Japan and Australia.”

Ghostbusters first aired in 1984 as a horror spoof directed and produced by  Ivan Reitman, and written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis. It starred Akroyd, Saturday Night Live buddy Bill Murray, and Ramis as a trio of eccentric parapsychologists who start a ghost-catching business in New York City.

An immediate hit, Ghostbusters spawned a multibillion dollar multimedia and licensing franchise, which included the 1989 Ghostbusters II and the 2016 reboot Ghostbusters, as well as two TV series, and a huge range of licensed merchandise.

“A cult classic and cultural phenomenon, the Ghostbusters brand has withstood the test of time reaching a myriad of fans, generation after generation around the globe,” said Jamie Stevens, EVP, Worldwide Consumer Products, Sony Pictures Entertainment. “We are excited to continue celebrating the famed franchise with the Ghostbusters: Afterlife release. Our partners have been fantastic at bringing the beloved brand characters and themes to life through movie-themed products and interactive experiences we are sure fans will never forget.”
