Barbie is celebrating the global fashion icon, supermodel, and entrepreneur Claudia Schiffer with a Barbie doll in her likeness, featuring a recreation of her iconic runway moment from the 1994 Fall/Winter Atelier Versace show.
The collector’s edition Barbie comes complete with a replica of the showstopping cerulean floor-length Versace gown that Schiffer wore at that event.
This is actually the fourth time Schiffer has collaborated with Barbie, but there’s a major difference this time out. For the first time, the Claudia Schiffer doll will be made available first to the general public across the United States.
Schiffer, a self-described Barbie fan, says she’s thrilled to be working with the brand once more.
“My earliest memories are playing with Barbie and wishing I could be just like her,” Schiffer said. “Half a century later, Mattel has made my wish come true by designing a doll in my likeness. I hope my doll can inspire all fans to dream big and follow their passions.”
The German-born Schiffer is considered one of the most successful models in history, and to this day holds the Guiness Book record for having appeared on more than 1,000 magazine covers. That includes her gracing the cover of Vogue (U.S.) 16 times. By 2022 Schiffer’s massive popularity helped her amass a considerable fortune, with Forbes estimating her net worth at around $55 million.
Schiffer remains influential today for her chic, signature style. In fact, this past summer, the Barbie Movie star Margot Robbie was seen dressed in an all-pink 1990s Chanel blazer, originally worn by Claudia Schiffer on her own global press tour.
The toy aisle version of Barbie created its first Claudia Schiffer doll in 2017 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of her career, as well as the launch of her autobiography, creating the golden Versace look she wore in the 1994 Real Barbie Vogue Italia shoot with Ellen von Unwerth.
Barbie also celebrated Claudia Schiffer’s 50th birthday in 2020, by creating two one-of-a-kind Barbie dolls of the legendary supermodel wearing her all-time favorite Versace and Balmain dresses.
The Versace gown was a look Claudia wore in the Italian Fall 1994 show, with a corset bodice and semi-sheer pleated skirt, and this gown is featured on the Claudia Schiffer doll available for sale now.
